Sweden has not ventured into the realm of cannabis decriminalization. Possession of small quantities for personal use can result in fines or imprisonment of up to six months. Possession of larger cannabis quantities is classified as a narcotic drug offense, subjecting offenders to imprisonment for a maximum of three years.

A 2021 study revealed a surge in discussions surrounding cannabis legalization in recent years. The consensus appears to be that it’s not a question of if Sweden will legalize cannabis, but rather when this transformation will occur.
